This is a process that sometimes takes many hours - getting from thought to the construction process. If the clients have plans, they are study thoroughly and time is spent with clients in walking through the plans to make sure they understand them and to determine if any changes need to be made.

Gourmet Grind ground trees, stumps and construction debris and turning it into mulch which is then left on site to control runoff during construction or for landscaping needs. This also reduces that amount of waste going to the dump. The Nelson's were featured in Cherokee Life Magazine for their green building and conservation practices.

Giving Back To The Community

In the winter of 1990 Quinn and Company and Ben Nelson Contractor built the gazebo in the middle of downtown Canton, Georgia. Ben was instrumental in getting the material donated by local suppliers he used for the gazebo. Kevin Quinn built the roof of copper in two pieces in his warehouse. It was then brought in to town on an 18 wheeler. Ben Nelson and crew framed the gazebo and the roof was put on top by a crane. The gazebo is used as a gathering place by the community and is the center of attraction in Canton for parades and the Saturday farmers market. Bonnie Nelson entered the community service project in the Atlanta Home Builders Association Professionalism Awards for community service and won!

In 2007 Gourmet Grind contributed to The Extreme Make Over House featured on ABC in Lake Arrowhead Subdivision by donating the grinding of tree's and construction debris leaving the mulch on site to retain the dirt during construction.

The Nelsons have designed and built one of a kind custom homes in Cherokee, Cobb, Bartow, and Fulton Counties. Their quality and hard work were recognized by the Atlanta Home Builders Association in receiving Professionalism Awards; which is one of the highest awards a builder can receive for his work in the State of Georgia. They won the Obie Award in 1990 for a remodel, 1992, 1993, and 1996 for custom design homes.

In 1996 the Nelsons designed and built an Atlanta Home Builders Association Expo Home in Bradshaw Farm in the Hickory Flat area. The Home Expo was held during the Olympics in Atlanta. The first lot featured the Southern Living House that was featured in the 1997 Southern Living Magazine. The Nelson's custom design home was the Home Depot Home. Over 60,000 people went through the 7 homes that were in the show. BNC won best of show for the kitchen, dining and family room and a gold Obie award was awarded by the Atlanta Home Builders Ass. This home was also featured on the cover of Better Homes & Gardens magazine in 1997 and 1998. Better Homes and Gardens said the plan was one of their best selling plans and as a result they re-interviewed Bonnie again and featured the home in July of 2002. In March 2001, the Nelsons were featured again in Better Homes & Garden magazine for a custom design for homeowners in Bradshaw Farm and this plan made the cover as well.
